Joe LeBoeuf joins Swiss Consulting Group after a lifetime devoted to studying and practicing leadership within the US Military, The oldest in a family of seven children, he earned the right to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating with a commission as a second lieutenant, Combat Engineers. While at West Point, he was a captain of the Division I men’s volleyball team and a member of the ski patrol and commanded the First Regiment, United States Corps of Cadets (USCC).

As an officer in the US Army, Joe was a parachutist and Army Ranger and held numerous command and staff assignments in the United States and Germany, including as commander of the largest engineer company in the Army, as the senior aide to a Corps Commander in Europe during the Cold War, and as a combat engineer battalion executive officer (XO). He spent 3 years working for the Chief of Staff of the Army (CSA), General Eric Shinseki, on a special study of leadership and leader development issues in the Army, and served on the CSA’s Army Training and Leader Developmental Panel Executive Committee for over 2 years. He was intimately involved in building the leadership and leader development programs at West Point and throughout the Army and helped author much of the Army’s leadership doctrine. In addition to a BS in Engineering from West Point, he earned a Master’s in Engineering Psychology and Ph.D. degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is also an in-residence graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College and the Army War College.

Joe recently retired as a Colonel after 35 years in uniform, and his last assignment was as an Academy Professor at the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he was Deputy Head of the Behavioral Sciences and Leadership Department, Director of Organizational Studies and Director, Tactical Officer Education Program (TOEP). His expertise is focused on leadership education, leader development and organizational culture and change. After he retired from the military, the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University hired Joe in June 2004 to teach management and leadership in the executive and daytime MBA programs, to help develop the Coach K Center for Leadership and Ethics, and to work with the Fuqua Leadership Fellows and the student-run Leader Development Initiative.

He is married to Brigadier General (R) Maureen LeBoeuf, an Army aviator, also a former member of the permanent faculty at West Point with a doctorate from the University of Georgia. They have two children, Jay, a cadet at West Point in the Class of 2007, and Jackie, a student at Cardinal Gibbons Catholic School in Raleigh.
